Beginner's Guide — From Picking a Class to Your First Max Level

Atualizado 2026-07-19 · Um guia original do D4 Forge

If you have just started Diablo 4 — or you are coming back after a long break — this one page is enough. Class choice, leveling, and what to do once you cap: in order.

1. Picking a class — you cannot really go wrong

There are eight classes right now. Balance patches keep shuffling the rankings, so pick whichever one feels good to play first. If you want this season's rankings, see the tier list.

  • Barbarian — Melee brawler who swaps between several weapons mid-fight. Tanky and forgiving, so it suits new players.
  • Sorcerer — Ranged fire, lightning and cold magic. Very satisfying at clearing a screen.
  • Rogue — Fast movement and combos. Technical, weaving between melee and ranged.
  • Necromancer — Skeletons and golems plus bone and blood magic. You can let the minions do the work, which is relaxing.
  • Druid — Bear and wolf shapeshifting with storm and earth magic. Gets very sturdy later on.
  • Spiritborn — Agile class drawing on jaguar, eagle, gorilla and centipede spirits.
  • Paladin — Shield and holy power. Solid defence and aura support.
  • Warlock — The newest class, wielding demonic power with an aggressive kit.

2. Should I play the campaign?

Play it once. It teaches you the controls and systems naturally, and the story is genuinely good. Once you have finished it, every later character can pick "Skip Campaign" and jump straight into seasonal content.

3. Leveling ground rules

  • Pick one build guide and follow it. Spending skill points at random makes the late game painful. Choose a build for your class from the build list and take the skills in order. Respeccing costs a little gold at any time, so do not agonise over it.
  • Do not over-reach on difficulty. Clearing quickly without dying is the best experience per hour. The right difficulty is the one you can farm comfortably.
  • Gear is disposable while leveling. Do not spend materials on low-level items — just pick up upgrades as they drop and keep moving.
  • Upgrade your potion and prioritise elites. Visit the Alchemist to raise your healing potion tier, and kill elites (yellow and blue monsters) first in dungeons for better experience and loot.

4. Systems that are easy to miss

  • Mount — Unlocked through the campaign. It cuts travel time dramatically.
  • Altars of Lilith and Renown — Altars scattered across the world and Renown rewards make your whole account stronger, and most of it carries to seasonal characters. Collect them when you have time.
  • Class mechanic — Each class unlocks its own system while leveling (Barbarian Weapon Expertise, Rogue Specialization, Druid Spirit Boons and so on). Do the quest as soon as the notification appears.
  • Gem sockets — Socketing gems into weapons, armor and jewelry is an immediate, noticeable power spike.

5. What do I do at max level?

Reaching the level cap (70) is where real progression starts. Roughly in this order:

  1. Paragon boards — You keep getting stronger through Paragon points after leveling ends. Follow the Paragon tab of your build guide exactly.
  2. Nightmare Dungeons and The Pit — The core repeatable content for gear and materials. Details in the Pit & Nightmare Dungeon guide.
  3. Refining your gear — Tempering and Masterworking. See the item farming and masterworking guide.
  4. Boss hunting — Kill Lair Bosses for targeted uniques. See the boss guide.

6. Frequently asked

  • Do I need a seasonal character? — Yes. Seasonal content and rewards are exclusive to seasonal characters. See the Season 14 guide for what is live now.
  • Do I need a party? — No. Every piece of content can be done solo, though you will naturally run into other players at World Bosses and similar events.
  • What do I lose when I die? — In normal mode, only equipment durability (repairable). Hardcore deletes the character permanently, so it is not recommended for beginners.
